About Program

This is part of its efforts to popularize science to the general public and students who are pursuing science as their career. TNSF attempt to focus on students on higher science as everyone knows that learning of science at college within the curriculum is not enough to acquire holistic knowledge of science at the appropriate time. Hence, to fill the gap between what students are acquiring through the curriculum and what it is required, TNSF is planning its activities on higher science to students who are pursuing higher education.

2021 Medicine laurates and their discoveries
The Nobel prize in physiology or medicine for the year 2021 has been awarded jointly to David Julius and Ardem Patapoutian for unravelling the mystery of how we sense our environment through temperature and touch. They discovered novel protein receptors namely TRPV1, TRPM8, Piezo1 and Piezo2, located on the membrane of nerve cells. These protein receptors are responsible to sense the burning sensation of spicy chilli, to feel the heat and cold as well as to distinguish between a gentle touch and hard punch. This talk will give you the scientific reason behind the sensation of touch and temperature.
