This is part of its efforts to popularize science to the general public and students who are pursuing science as their career. TNSF attempt to focus on students on higher science as everyone knows that learning of science at college within the curriculum is not enough to acquire holistic knowledge of science at the appropriate time. Hence, to fill the gap between what students are acquiring through the curriculum and what it is required, TNSF is planning its activities on higher science to students who are pursuing higher education.
About the Lecture Scientific drilling is the enterprise of strategically digging boreholes to analyse deeper parts of the Earth’s crust. It offers unique opportunities and access to study geohazards and expands our understanding of the Planet’s history, rock types, energy resources, life forms, climate change patterns, and more. With its unique capability to provide exact and fundamental knowledge of the composition of the Earth’s crust, structure and processes, scientific drilling can inform a range of societal problems related to geohazards and georesources. It is therefore an indispensable tool in Earth System Science.

Scientific Drilling: Opening Windows to the Planet’s Depths
Q & A
Dr. Sukanta Roy , is a trained geophysicist and heads the Borehole Geophysics Research Laboratory (BGRL), Karad under the Ministry of Earth Sciences, Government of India. His primary interests include research in earthquake science through scientific drilling investigations in active fault zones, borehole geophysics, earthquake geology, seismology, geothermics and rock mechanics. His recent achievements includes the design, planning and execution of a 3 km deep scientific borehole and downhole investigations, which provide new insights into the geomechanical and geothermal regime controlling the recurrent reservoir-triggered earthquakes in the Koyna region of western India.
